About Field Art StudiosField Art Studio is one of the oldest picture frame shops / art galleries in the Detroit Metropolitan area. It was founded in 1950 by Sam Field who was involved in art therapy with veterans returning from WW II. He established a gallery / studio, gave art classes and did picture framing. As the years progressed the studio went through several changes. Services were added and some were not renewed. In 1969 the shop moved to Berkley, Michigan, were it stayed for 27 years. In 1984 Sam retired and Jerome Feig took over as the Director. In 1996 the business moved to a new and expanded facility in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan. While only 3 miles away from Berkley it is closer to the original location in Detroit. The 1950’s era building was completely updated and revamped with the input of the entire staff for efficiency and utilitization of the added space. A multipurpose classroom and separate conservation/gilding lab was added. Gallery space was once again large enough to hold shows.
