To sign up for a class contact Field Art Studio or the Society of Gilders (SOG). As a regional educational center for the Society of Gilders, Field Art Studio offers the following classes:

Metal Leaf Gilding

Short Description: The class covers the basics of surface preparation and the application of metal leaf (brass, aluminum, broken leaf, bronze powder) and the gilding of an 8" x 10" pictures frame with metal leaf. Materials are included.

Traditional Water Gilding

Short Description: The class covers the basics of burnished water gilding through the preparation of rabbit skin glue, gesso, bole; the application of these materials and the gilding of an 8”x10” picture frame with 22k gold. Materials and a gilding tool kit are included.

Ornament Restoration
Date: October 18-19, 2008 (10am-5pm)

Short Description: This class will cover the basics on how replace missing compo ornaments, making molds and casting; repairing gesso losses; and matching tone of repairs. Basic gilding skills are required. Students will work on actual antique frames in class or bring your own frame.
